In I Corinthians 16:9 Paul said “For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.” It has been exciting to see what God has done in recent days because of the door he has opened for Alabama Free Will Baptists in Russia and Central Asia. However, doors of opportunity do not always stay open. During April’s mission/work trip to Russia opposition and resistance to our work was felt in almost every city. Officials questioned our presence in Brukovetskaya and in Tikhoretsk. A Russian orthodox lady stood up after Rev. Ken Akers preached in Krasnodar and said “We don’t need Americans here. All Russians love Jesus.” Missionary Mike Corley recently related how it is more difficult for missionaries to obtain visas for Russia. They can only get a 3 month visa unless they own property there.
A more pressing matter at this time is the situation in Central Asia. Both missionary Mike Corley and Clint Morgan have expressed concern over new laws that are proposed for Central Asia. In Bro. Corley’s article on page 4 he says of these laws “if approved, will severely change the way we minister and perhaps even cause us to have to leave the field.” Concerning this situation he asks “ Please pray for these new laws that will be voted upon June 16.”
