The Christian Education Board would like to thank all the students, parents, and churches who participated in the 2010 NYC Competitions in Oklahoma City, Ok. The state of Alabama was well represented with winners in both individual and team Bible competition categories, as well as music, and art. Mt. Harmony Youth Win National Awards! The National Association of Free Will Baptists met in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, July 17th – 21st. The Free Will Baptist National Youth Conference met in conjunction with the National Association. Thousands of adults and young people attended these two events. The Mt. Harmony youth have for the third year in a row participated in music, art, and Bible competition at the local, state and national levels. The competition was very tough this year, but the young people from Mt. Harmony did very well. The Junior Ensemble, composed of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders won first place. The members of the Junior Ensemble are Addison Beasley, Natalie Guyton, Luke Hudgens, Matthew Morris, Nicole Stripling, Ryan Welch, and Logan Young. The Youth Ensemble (1st through 6th graders) placed second. The members of this group are Addison Beasley, Mallory Beasley, Natalie Guyton, Jake Hudgens, Luke Hudgens, Matthew Morris, Nicole Stripling, Hannah Taylor, Ryan Welch, and Logan Young. The quartet composed of Addison Beasley, Mallory Beasley, Jake Hudgens, and Luke Hudgens won first place. Nicole Stripling and Logan Young competed in the duet category for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders and won first place. Mallory Beasley and Jake Hudgens competed in the duet category for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and placed second. A trio composed of Natalie Guyton, Kelsey, McAdams, and Hannah Taylor competed in the trio category for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders and placed third. Emerald Miller competed as a soloist in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade category and did an excellent job. Emerald did not win this year, but says she is looking forward to competing again next year. Logan Young competed in the soloist competition for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders and won 1st place. Mrs. Beth Willhite, Mrs. Funishia Young, and Mrs. Kay Thompson were the sponsors and coaches for the musical competition. Sam Young and Hannah Huguley both entered the art competition for the first time this year. Hannah’s entry was a drawing and Sam’s was in the single photograph category. The competition in this category was outstanding. A Bible Millionaire team composed of Jake Hudgens, Kelsey McAdams, and Hannah Taylor competed for the first time. They fell short by only two points of a tie-breaker to move on to the next round. Mr. Jonathan Beasley and Mr. Ricky Owens were the team sponsors. The church hopes to send two Bible Millionaire teams to the 2011 convention. Mt. Harmony church is grateful and thankful for these young people that prepared themselves to use their God given gifts for the Lord’s glory. They represented Mt. Harmony Free Will Baptist Church, the Vernon Association of Free Will Baptists, and the Alabama State Association of Free Will Baptists at the 2010 National Convention and did it well. Next year’s meeting of the National Association of Free Will Baptists will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, July 17th – 20th, 2011
